1. After 5 days of persistent fever I went to take a blood test yesterday morning.
2. The minute I asked for a dengue test, the nurse said "Ohh yes I can see the rashes on your hands. Sign of dengue.".
I looked down at my hands and went
"What? Wow... I didn't notice the rashes before".
I really didn't.
3. Nurse jabbed the needle in me and I felt a sharp excruciating pain for like 20 seconds when I finally thought it was over only to hear the nurse say "Oh... no wonder the blood is not coming out. You're gripping too tight".
4. She tried again and got the blood sample out successfully the second time round. Any more than that second time I was going to request she put me on general anesthetic!
5. Lay it bed all day yesterday feeling a little weak.
6. Test results came back close to 5pm. Tested negative for dengue but nurse said I had a "suspiciously low" platelet count which may indicate dengue although they can't seem to find the virus yet. Was told to go again the next morning for another blood test (Great!)
7. Had dinner at Princess' place. Her parents were really nice to not only cook some nice home cooked food for me but prepare all sorts of chinese remedies to bring my platelet count up.
8. Princess followed me home that night and stayed with me.
9. Covered myself with mosquito repellent to make sure my Dengue doesn't spread to anyone else apart from me. The smell of that repellent on my skin reminded me of my boy scout days. Just a torch light and a tent and I'm home free!
10. Woke up this morning, dropped Princess off at work and went to get my second blood test. Fever seems gone this morning but I never really had much of a high-fever in the past few days to begin with. Funny form of Dengue I have.
11. Now I'm at home about to take a nap. Waiting for my test results to come back in a few hours. It's most likely going to test positive for Dengue by now and I'm probably going to be hospitalized for the next few days.
Will update again when I can. So much to blog about actually. Oh well ... next time it is.

I had a 40 degree fever before last year. I almost died(not literally) from the headache it was causing me. -_- i told my mum I needed to go see the doctor NOW NOW NOW. and I don't even ask to go to the doctor's. I hate going to the doctor's. and the doctor asked me why I could still walk. HAHAHA.
oh, did I mention? I had an exam the next day. ._.
Tim wont get dengue easily one ;p
Don't worry Tim, just relax...last time my bro also like that 1. Got fever and rashes. When the result comes out it's negative.
So relax~ you test result sure negative 1. If positive...then...it's not end of the world! I think...
get well soon Tim!
Dear Timothy,
How are you doing? I hope what you are having is just a normal viral fever.
Indeed low platelet count or more accurately a downward trend of platelet count ( that's why its always safer to perform the blood test twice of at least 2 days intervals) to confirm the diagnosis. Once your platelet goes down below 150 thousand, then it's dengue, however you'll only be hospitalized if your platelet is below 100k. There is no cure for dengue fever, but it certainly helps to drink 100 Plus, since its isotonic to replenish the lost minerals through sweat.
Serology testing is of no significant.(confirmatory test) since the hallmark of dengue.
The more dangerous condition that is spread through aedes mosquitoes is Chikugunya disease which presents itself exactly like Dengue fever. In fact all viral fever have a typical spiking temperature. Unlike bacterial infection, where the temperature doesn't go that high, viral infection fever pattern is spiking where it may go as high as 39-40 degree Celsius and after about 3 hours, it comes back to normal, irrespective of taking panadol.
All you can do is rehydrate yourself.
what was your platelet count which the nurse interpret it as suspiciously low?

get well soon dude, dengue isn't fun, I had it before, hopefully yours is something much milder
Speedy recovery.

What a sissy! Take blood only mar need anesthetic or not lah! Take blood where got pain wan? Oooopps! Sorry Tim! You're the first guy/girl (or first person in my life) that whined when his blood is taken. LOL!
Hey Tim! I've had gone through that experience before. Fever and rashes. Feeling weak. And guess what? I went for blood test for THREE times -__-
What Dr Wan said is right. 100 plus does help fever. I always take 100 plus. If it's dengue, it's dangerous, you might want to try watermelon juice. My friend's sister had that when she was in the hospital as nothing else worked.
I have no blood even though I'm not gripping lol and I hate needles. You'll know when I'm in the hospital because I'd be the one screaming at the top of my lungs. *embarass* haha
Get well soon.
take care!
Take care! I have a few friends who had this incident before. They were hopitalised for a few days and after that, they were back to normal. So hang in there!
Take care & get well soon.Don't forget to clean up your house after that!
Hey drink lots of water. You should not be too worried if u dont have the warning signs like gum bleeding, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea. Oh drink lots of PLAIN water. Dont exert yourself for the next one week after the fever subsides.
Tim! I had the similar experience also. You know the small baby papaya leaves? Pounce it and drink its juice. Super good to increase platelet counts.
Hey Tim, you were fine just a week ago. Do take care.
Oh, Air Asia - yes I paid just over RM100 to postpone my flight once. It works. MAS doesn't do that - esp the low-fare one. Josiah's ticket to Melbourne is forfeited as he has to go to Japan instead. Sighhh...
GET WELL SOON!

Hey Tim,
I would like to emphasize drink at least 2 bottles of 1.5 litre of 100 plus.
No mineral water, no RO water. Its nice to drink but doesn't have any nutritional value. It may quench you thirst but it doesn't replenish your loss minerals. As a result of that, you'll feel lethargic!

*pops over from audrey's blog*
sheeesh. presistent fever is annoying, no? Go drink some chinese cooling drink-ish thingy. tastes horrible, but it works. i do hope you don't have dengue though. >.< but usually dengue virus pops up after 5 days? unless your virus likes to play hide and seek. :p
You can drink lots of isotonic drinks during the phase of high temperature. But once the temperature comes down its the critical phase. At this point take only plain water. This phase is when the temperature touched down 38 degrees and below and lasts 24-48 hours. This is when your blood vessels gets leaky and one goes into hypotension in severe cases.

sad to hear that it might be dengue.. get well soon!
I had dengue before the same time with my little brother! Stupid mosquitoes! The papaya leave juice helps, but it tastes super awful, I couldn't help but vomited half of it out. *paiseh*
100plus is good too, since water tastes like shit when you're sick, 100plus is a good option!
point form writing reminds me of lawyers.
anyway, you be stronger from this episode... keep on smiling and be happy, it may very be the thing that will heal you...
cheers!
elo, take care, rest well and get well soon~

Sorry Audrey, was just kidding with Tim. I'm no hater okay, Tim's my friend. Sorry Tim, didn't mean to tick your gf off. Get well soon! :D
Get well soon. I'm sick here in Cardiff too. Think it might be swine flu??? Haha...
If they're not rushing you off to hospital to get drips and all that, I guess it means it's not the worst :)
